If you bought a car, semi truck, motorhome, conversion van or any kind of vehicle in Iowa, and it turned out to be a lemon, consider yourself lucky. Compared to most states, Iowa's Lemon Laws go a long way towards protecting consumers' rights.

Or course, the only way to find out if your car is a lemon is to ask a lawyer who knows. For a free consultation with attorney Vince Megna of the Law Offices of Vince Megna, call our offices at 414-326-4979 or contact us online today.

Mr. Megna wrote the book on Lemon Law - "Bring on Goliath: Lemon Law Justice in America." In 2003, Lawyers Weekly USA named him one of the "Ten Best Lawyers in the Country" for the year. Providing passionate, personalized legal service, he can help you hold auto manufacturers and dealers responsible for the defective goods they sell.

"It's amazing how differently big corporations treat you when you have an extremely competent and professional law firm representing you." - Client Testimonials.

Your Lemon Law Rights in Iowa

Lemon Law states that if a consumer has too many problems with their car within the first year of purchase, they are entitled to either a replacement or a full reimbursement. Specifically, Iowa's Lemon Law gives you the right to a refund if:

  • Your car needs at least four repairs for the same defect within the first year.

  • Your car spends at least 20 days out of service within the first year.

  • A defect that you tried to get repaired was not successfully fixed within the first year.

If you make a valid Lemon Law claim to the manufacturer or dealer under these guidelines, they have 30 days to give you the refund or replacement you deserve. If they refuse, you can sue to recover attorneys' fees plus up to three times the price you paid for your vehicle.

For used cars or for a new car that you purchased that is more than one year old, you have to rely on the dealer's or manufacturer's warranty. The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act states that warranties must be honored and must not be deceptive.
